Operagasmic
In 2009 Francesca set up her own opera company, Operagasmic which aims at making opera more accessible to a wider audience. This is done by giving the plots a modern facelift, thus making the stories more relevant to a contemporary audience. The operas are performed in unusual venues such as bars and warehouses. All barriers and stereotypes associated with opera are removed so that the show can be enjoyed by everyone!
February 2009 saw Operagasmic’s first performance of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro to a fully packed audience at Orgasmic Café Bar in York. Click here for the Yorker’s Review The Yorker - Culture.
In June 2009 Operagasmic’s production of Mozart’s Hair raising Don Giovanni performed at Orgasmic Café Bar and the University of York Drama Barn. This was also Operagasmic’s farewell to the UK before embarking to NZ.
Operagasmic made its impact on New Zealand in February 2011 with a production of Mozart’s School for Lovers (aka Cosi fan tutte). This was performed at the eccentric Mighty Mighty Bar on Cuba Street in Wellington. Both performances were a sell-out and certainly made a positive impression on the audience. I REALLY ENJOYED IT. Every bit of it.. It was the best $5 I've invested in for a long time
Absolutely brilliant. Have only been to one other opera before, this reminded me that I love it. Fun, quirky and as advertised, hothothot
It was a brilliant performance - I'm really glad I came! So I hope there will be more Operagasms to come soon

Operagasmic’s reputation for innovation spread throughout New Zealand resulting in a broadcast of a rehearsal on Radio New Zealand’s Arts on Sunday programme and an interview on Radio New Zealand’s Upbeat Show.
